KARACHI: Robbery bid foiled in Paposhnagar

KARACHI, Sept 23: An elderly man resisted armed robbers in North Nazimabad on Friday. Mohammad Abbas Jafri, 60, a retired employee of the defunct KDA pipe factory had withdrawn Rs100,000 from UBL Paposhnagar branch and boarded 2-K bus. He had withdrawn the cash for the wedding ceremony of his daughter scheduled to be held on Sunday. He got off from the bus near Board Office. He was trying to board another bus of 4-K route when an armed suspect pulled him from behind. He fell on the road and put up resistance against the armed man. The cash also fell on the road as result of the scuffle.

Meanwhile, a police constable of Shahrah-i-Noorjahan police station Muhammad Khan was passing through the place in plain clothes. He opened fire at the suspect. Taking advantage of the situation, another man who was monitoring the incident came in and fled after collecting the cash. He boarded a minibus (W-22) to make his escape.

Police from the North Nazimabad police station also reached the spot hearing the firing resulting in the arrest of suspect identified as Irfan. Two pistols and cash were recovered from his possession.

Police chased the minibus on motorcycles and finally arrested the man, who had fled away with the cash. He was identified as Abdul Wahid. Police recovered cash from his possession.

Muhammad Abbas Jafri, a patient of throat cancer, told police that he could not afford to lose the amount as it was a matter of life and death for him. Mr Jafri is a resident of Shadman Town.

Following the recovery, CCPO Tariq Jameel promoted constable Muhammad Khan as head constable and announced cash award and certificates to the police party that recovered the cash.

Police said that the suspect identified as Irfan was recently released from jail.

KIDNAPPING BID: A fake faith healer drugged an entire family in Baldia Town in an attempt to abduct a young boy from the house on Friday.

Police said a faith healer who could not be identified came to a house in Baldia Town and offered sweets saying the entire family would become rich.

The family comprising Abdul Majeed, 60, his wife Haseena Bibi, their son Hanif, 30, and his two children Ambreen and Muhammad Aziz, both seven, fell unconscious after consuming the sweets.

Police said the suspect was taking young Muhammad Aziz with him when Ambreen woke up and raised an alarm forcing the suspect to flee.
