KOLKATA, Sept 22: An Indian court on Thursday lifted a ban on a controversial book by an exiled Bangladeshi author, two years after it was imposed on grounds that the book contained objectionable references about Islam.
The Calcutta High Court, ruling in response to a petition by the Association for Protection of Democratic Rights, said the ban on Taslima Nasreen’s Bengali-language “Dwikhandito” (Split into two) by communist-ruled West Bengal state in 2003 was “unjustified and untenable”.—Reuters
