4 vie for top slot in Nowshera

NOWSHERA, Sept 22: Four candidates are in the run for the Nowshera district nazim’s post while five are vying to capture the tehsil Nowshera nazim’s seat in the third phase of the local government election to be held on Oct 6. For the district nazim’s slot, Daud Khan Khattak is backed by a five-party alliance, which includes JUI (F), PPPP, PPP (S), PML (N) and JUI (S), while a three-party alliance comprising ANP’s Watan Dost Group, PML (Q)’s Khushal Pakistan Group and Nowshera Jamhooriyat Bachao Tehrik, has fielded Mian Rashid Ali Shah for the post.

The Al-Khidmat group backed by the Jamaat-i-Islami is supporting Asif Luqman Qazi, son of MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad, for the coveted post.

An independent candidate, Zahidur Rehman, is also in the run.

For the Nowshera tehsil nazim, Dr Imran Khattak is backed by the five-party alliance, Mian Lutfur Rehman by the three-party alliance, and Haji Abdul Ghafoor Khan by the Al-Khidmat group.

A leader of the Nowshera Jamhooriyat Bachao Tehrik, Khan Khattak, is vying for the tehsil nazim’s post, while Sajid Iqbal who has recently joined the Al-Khidmat group is also in the run for the post.
