KARACHI: NLC driver wounded in grenade attack

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 22: A hand-grenade hurled at an NLC trailer partially exploded resulting in minor injuries to the driver on late Wednesday night at National Highway. Police said that an NLC trailer was passing near the Razzakabad police training college at National Highway when an explosive device was hurled inside the driver’s portion of the long vehicle.

TPO Bin Qasim Asif Ajaz told Dawn that fortunately the hand grenade failed to explode fully and the driver of the long vehicle escaped the explosion with minor injuries. He said that no damage was done to the driver’s cabin.

“The officials of the bomb disposal squad examined the place of the incident and suggested that the hand grenade did not properly explode, had it fully exploded the driver would have been in a serious condition”, the TPO said. Remains of the hand grenade and its pin were also recovered from the cabin.

A power pylon carrying high transmission lines was targeted recently, when two explosions damaged it. The pylon is located in the same vicinity where the Wednesday night incident occurred.
