Mengal calls for unity to achieve rights

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Sept 21: Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement (Ponam) Chief Sardar Ataullah Khan Mengal has urged the Baloch people to forge unity for waging struggle against the exploiters and usurpers that have been looting their resources for the last five decades.

Speaking at the “Bila Takaluff Programme” of Khuzdar Press Club on Wednesday, the Baloch nationalist politician held army bureaucracy responsible for political instability and denial of national rights to the deprived nationalities of the country.

He asserted them that our fault was that we had never compromised on the national and democratic rights of Baloch people.

Sardar Mengal declared that our struggle against the domination of one province was backed by the army bureaucrats would continue and maintained that the solution of Balochistan issue was the recognition of Balochs’ rights on their resources and political power to govern Balochistan.

He reiterated that mega uplift programme in the province was not for the betterment of Balochs but the ‘usurpers’ have launched the development projects to settle the outsiders in Balochistan that would imbalance the demographic ratio to turn Balochs into minority.

The Ponam chief alleged that rulers were bent upon constructing cantonments in Gwadar, Dera Bugti and Kohlu to facilitate the exploiters to plunder our resources but if Balochs were united then we would definitely foil their designs.

He said no nation could achieve its national rights without rendering sacrifices, adding that if Balochs were ready for sacrifices then no power could deprive them of their rights.

About the proposal to merge all Baloch nationalist political groups into single political organization, the patron-in-chief of BNP-Mengal said personally he did not oppose the idea but practically it was not possible as the example of BNP was before us.

Sardar Mengal said that all rulers from Liaquat Ali Khan to Benazir Bhutto had enjoyed the backing of army bureaucracy and whenever these leaders opposed the they were humiliated.

He stressed that if present rulers were interested in the integrity of country the army must go back to the barracks and allow the political leadership to resolve the political issues and constitutional matters.

ALLEGATION: National Party provincial president Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has alleged that the district returning officer of Kech has rejected the nomination paper of his party’s candidate for the district nazim slot, Mulla Barkat, at the behest of the Balochistan chief minister.

Dr Malik told a news conference at the press club here on Wednesday that the DRO had rejected the papers on the basis that the candidate was 21 years old though Mr Barkat was actually 45 year old. He added that Mr Barkat’son was studying in a secondary school.

Criticizing the ‘biased and partial attitude’ of the DRO, Dr Malik said that he had accepted the papers of Abdul Rauf Rind, the ruling party’s candidate for the district nazim, who had not passed the SSC examination.

The NP leader distributed in the conference what he called a bogus BA degree of Mr Rind issued by the Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, Sindh, and two letters of the DRO.
