KARACHI, Sept 21: Justice S Ali Aslam Jaffery of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Wednesday summoned District Coordination Officer Karachi to appear before the bench on Thursday.
The bench was hearing a contempt of court application filed by Dr Anwer Yebin Ju of Pak-China Friendship Society who maintained that the court had issued interim order staying the demolition of a medical facility established by the society, spreading over an area of more than 3,000 square yards. The facility was demolished to pave way for construction of Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim.
The bench, after perusing the stay order and suit papers, ordered the DCO Karachi to appear before the court on Thursday.
KCCI ELECTION: A bench of High Court of Sindh stayed the elections to seat of President, KCCI, here on Tuesday while putting off the hearing of a petition challenging the elections of the president.
The election was scheduled to be held on Sept 24. The elections for the seats of members to managing committee will be held as scheduled on the same date.
NOTICE TO NAB: The Sindh High Court issued notice to the NAB for Sept 28 on a petition filed by a customs official against harassment.
Javed Iqbal Mirza, collector of custom, sales tax and excise department, submitted he was being subjected to harassment by the NAB authorities and time and again he was called by respondents for inquiry. The court was prayed to restrain the respondents from harassment.
SHC’s division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon, after preliminary hearing of the petition, issued notice to the respondents and called their comments.
APPEAL DISMISSED: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal against acquittal of man in a murder case upholding the trial court order.
Abbas Ali was acquitted by the additional district and sessions court West in a murder case of Abdul Razzak on Jan 16, 2001.
Complainant Mohammad Siddique filed an appeal against acquittal of Abbas and prayed the court to set aside the trial court order and convict the respondent.—APP/PPI
