PPP-backed candidate withdraws paper in protest

By Our Correspondent

SANGHAR, Sept 20: The PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel candidate for the taluka nazim, Abbas Ali Chandio, withdrew his nomination papers in protest against the attitude of his party men in the PPP. Mr Chandio, who is also the president of the PPP cultural wing, Sanghar taluka, in a written statement issued here on Tuesday, said that PPP leaders of the district, nominated him to file nomination papers.

He said that it was also decided that PPP candidates will also contest for reserved and minority seats but no one from his party came to file nomination papers. After filing the nomination forms, he alleged, he left alone and no one from PPP district leaders came to support him.

As a protest, he said, he withdrew his nomination papers. He said that he still believed in the leadership of Benazir Bhutto and he will also complain to her about the whole episode.

He alleged even PPP leaders were not available to accompany him to the district courts while he was going to file his nomination papers.

With the withdrawal of Mr Chandio, Saeed Khan Nizamani, of the Faqir Dost Panel was the only candidate for the taluka nazim while at Shahdadpur taluka, Hussain Bux Khaskheli has already been unofficially elected unopposed because his rivals, Lal Bux Bagrani’s nomination paper was rejected by the returning officer.
