SHL ends on sour note

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 19: Super Hockey League ended on mismanagement like it had started as organizers put more emphasis on pomp and pageantry but did not bother to care for the schoolchildren who were part of the closing ceremony.

While Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) had rescheduled the Northern Cavaliers-Sindh Qalandars final from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on the request of PTV, it did not feel necessary to inform about the change to the coordinators of the groups of schoolchildren.

As a result, the schoolchildren started gathering at the venue from 2.00pm and some of them came at 4.00pm and had to wait for eight agonizing hours when the match finally started at 10.05pm after a 35-minute delay.

While the kids, who were part of a tableau and school band, had to wait for the ceremonies to start, they were neither provided lunch nor refreshment.

Media, which faced problems throughout the league as quite a few reporters had to cover the matches while standing because of broken chairs, had to face more trouble on the final day when organizers put large speakers of the public address system directing towards press gallery, causing unbearable agony to the media that covered the final.
