Akber smashes century


KARACHI, Sept 19: Islamia Arts and Commerce College completed double win when they clinched the Karachi University Inter-collegiate cricket championship overwhelming Jinnah College by 72 runs at UBL Sports Complex on Monday.

One-down Akber Rehman played a pivotal role in his team’s triumph with a brilliant hundred. He struck ten boundaries and three sixes in his 129 while Muhammad Faheem hit four fours in making 50.

Islamia, batting first, collected 256 for six in 40 overs.

Jinnah, in reply, were bundled out for 184 with off-break bowler Kamal Afridi taking three for 28 in 4.5 overs.

Akber Rehman was adjudged the best batsman of the tournament, scoring 284 runs in three innings with two hundreds.

Islamia had also won the Karachi Board Inter-collegiate title in March.
