NAWABSHAH, Sept 19: The Sindh provincial election commissioner, Ahmed Ali Halepoto, presided over a meeting here on Monday at the DRO office regarding the third phase of the local body elections.

The election commissioner expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by DRO Ghulam Qadir Leghari and directed the officials to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.

Those who attended the meeting were first additional district and sessions judge and RO Amjad Ali Qazi, second additional district and sessions judge and RO Masood Korejo, third additional district and sessions judge and RO Saleem Jan Khan, first senior civil judge and RO Mian Mohsin Raza and second senior civil judge and RO Mohammad Manazirul Haq, the assistant election commissioner of Nawabshah, Ali Asghar Siyal, and DPO Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali.

LB-POLLS: According to unofficial results, five women were elected unopposed as member of the district council from Daur taluka on reserved seats.

Those who were elected were Amna alias Saima Jabeen, Zahida, Imam Khatoon, Zahida Perveen and Naimat Begum.

DEATH: A cleaner, Mohammad Nawaz, died as he fell from a truck on the National Highway near Sakrand.

His body was taken to Bhakkar (Punjab) for burial.

TWO KILED: Two brothers were killed when a van collided head-on with their motorcycle on the Nawabshah-Daur link road on Sunday.

Akram, 40, and Ghulam Mustafa, 31, died on the spot.

The van driver managed to escape from the scene.
