Murder case against six policemen

By Our Correspondent

MANDI BAHAUDDIN, Sept 19: On the orders of additional district and sessions judge police have registered a case on Monday against Rahmania check post in charge along with five constables for allegedly torturing a religious organization’s local leader to death.

Reports said ASI Mohammad Aftab Baig, along with constables Sikandar Hayat, Mohammad Nawaz, Ghulam Murtaza and two others picked up a Daawat-i-Islami leader, Naeem Mehmood Qadri, on May 20, 2005. Later, the family of the deceased was informed by the police that he was crushed to death by a trailer and his body was lying at Gujrat DHQ hospital. Meanwhile, police officials forcibly buried the body.

Upon a written application, Additional Sessions Judge Shaukat Iqbal ordered to exhume the body on Sept 8, and medical examination confirmed physical torture. Phalia police have launched an FIR under sections 302, 365 of the PPC and started investigations.

PMA: Pakistan Medical Assocation’s local executive body has expressed grave concern over what it termed cold response of the administration towards the demand of the PMA for withdrawal of a ‘baseless’ FIR against the body’s district chief Dr Tariq Mehmood.

The body, which met here under SVP Dr Akhtar Javed Tabassum on Monday also announced to move PMA Punjab body to observe a strike throughout the province.

PMA body also urged police high-ups to ensure provision of justice to Dr Tariq who was allegedly being victimized at the behest of the ruling party.
