Ex-dist nazim withdraws papers
TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 19: Former district nazim Muhammad Ashfaq withdrew his nomination papers on Monday afternoon for district nazim slot in favour of the ruling party candidate Chaudry Abdul Sattar.
Reports said Mr Ashfaq had filed papers as covering candidate of Mr Sattar as there was confusion over the latter’s matriculation certificate. Chaudhry Sattar had complained to Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi that his son, Farrukh Sattar, had submitted nomination papers as his covering candidate and there was no justification of filing of papers by Mr Ashfaq.
The chief minister had reportedly directed the district nazim to withdraw his papers.
RESIGNATION: Punjab PML-N President Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa on Monday approved resignation of the party’s Toba secretary-general Rana Muhammad Anwar.
Rana Anwar had sent his resignation following filing of nomination papers for the district nazim slot.
GANGS SMASHED: Gojra police claimed to have busted two gangs involved in highway robberies and theft in various districts, including Okara, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Toba.
DPO Akhtar Laleka said at a press conference on Monday that a gang, headed by Sultan alias Sultani of Chak 97-JB, comprised Nadeem Butt of Nawan Lahore and Imran alias Mani of Faisalabad. The other gang, led by Ijaz Meerasi of Shorkot (Jhang), consisted of Adil and Salamat of the same area.
He claimed that the police had recovered valuables worth millions of rupees from their possession.
