ISLAMABAD, Sept 18: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has asked Sindh House chief engineer to bring all the buildings plans of the house to the authority so that fine could be imposed according to measurement of the building for alleged violation of building laws, a source told Dawn on Sunday.

“We are totally blank at the moment and cannot impose fine unless we have complete drawings of the buildings,” an authority official said.

According to the CDA, Sindh House was constructed in 1974 without the authority’s approval. The information to this effect came to light when the management of the Sindh House started extension work, which was stopped by the Capital Development Authority.

The management has been directed to pay the late approval charges along with the fine for illegal construction.

The sources said 25 acres were allotted to Sindh House in 1973 and the site plan of the building was submitted to the Capital Development Authority for approval the same year.

However, the authority had raised some objections and directed the Sindh government to rectify the site plan.

The source said instead of rectifying the plan, Sindh authorities started construction of the building without getting approval of the CDA.

The source said three official of the CDA’s building control section had been issued show-cause notices to explain as to why the extension of Sindh House was not timely stopped by them.

It has been learnt that despite CDA directives, the extension work at Sindh House still continues.

“We would again go to the site and if work is in progress, punitive action against management of Sindh House would be taken,” an official of the anti-encroachment directorate of the CDA said.

The official said Sindh authorities had stated extension of the building towards Constitution Avenue to construct 12 additional officers suits there.
