Golf: Munir enjoys lead


RAWALPINDI, Sept 17: Muhammad Munir took a three-stroke lead after two rounds in professionals’ category of COAS Open Golf Championship at Rawalpindi Golf Course on Saturday.

Munir returned a two-round card of six-under 138 while his closest rival, Muhammad Imdad, with a score of three-under 141 — three strokes behind the leader.

Irfan Mehmud was trailing on third position in professionals’ event with a score of one-under 143. In amateurs net, which will decide the title winner, Ijaz Hussain Qureshi maintained his lead, now having a two-round card of one-under 143.

Ashfaq Lone of Sialkot (149) was second while Abbas Mirza (152) was third. In amateurs gross, Tariq Mehmud was still in front with 155 while Ansar Mehmud of Karachi (159) and Abbas Mirza of (162) in third place.

In ladies event, Fakeha Ambreen gained lead after first-round 18 holes in both net (81) and gross (66). Mehwish Javed was second with score of 79 while Tahira Nazir was third in the net with her 81. Tahira Nazir (80) was second while Jamila Jabbar was third with 89 in the gross.

All these four women —Fakehan, Tahira, Mehwish and Jamila — will also represent Pakistan in the golf competitions of 4th Women Islamic Games starting in Tehran (Iran) from Sept 22.—APP
