Lucky Murad tipped to win feature event
LAHORE, Sept 17: A tricky card of six events awaits the race-goers when the third Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday. All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1200m, three of them will be held in the floodlights.
The distance of the races has been increased by 100m in view of the pleasant weather in Lahore these days following heavy rains, in the city a couple of days back.
The feature event, the Barisal Plate class IV division I handicap race has a moderate field of only seven acceptors barring last-minute withdrawals.
Of them only two matter on recent performance and handicap. They are the chestnut gelding Lucky Murad and the three-year-old colt High Fire.
Both had finished very close, when separated by the magic eye of the camera in their last outing on Sept 4.
Lucky Murad had won four races and placed on the board twice while High Fire had not won a single race so far.
The Handicap, however, goes in favour of the latter. This will be the sixth race of the day.
Four-year-old chestnut filly, Queen Of Saba, after winning a race on Sept 4 over 1200 metres looks set to make it two in-a-row.
Her performance that day was a surprise for race-goers though that was not in a fast time.
She has now been promoted to Class V division I. Her close rivals will be Run And Win and Take Off. This will be the fourth race of the day.
Brave Majesty, High Dream, Aya Chandiwala and Puma The Great are the chance horses in the supporting and sixth race of the card.
On pedigree Brave Majesty, who was placed on the board in her previous outing should sweep over her rivals. The other three events, first, second and third are full of form and chance horses.
In each event there are at least four or five contestants having good chance.
Winner picking may prove a difficult task in these races. The course will be going slightly heavy.The first race will be held at 4pm.
