‘Rs3.15m spent on interior ministry officials’ tours’

ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: A total of Rs3.158 million was spent on the 42 official tours made by the interior ministry officials during the last two years, National Assembly was told on Friday. According to the interior ministry’s response to a question raised in the lower house, National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) Director-General Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema paid most expensive and highest number of official foreign tours from the ministry during the period.

Brig Cheema paid six visits to seven countries, including the US, the UK, the UAE, China, Qatar and Sri Lanka, at a cost of Rs674,685.

The second highest number of foreign tours were made by former interior secretary Tasneem Noorani who visited seven countries at a cost of Rs570,545.

Another former interior secretary, Tariq Mehmud, went on three tours — two to Switzerland and one to China — at a cost of Rs55,359.

Current Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah only visited the US on May 2 to 7 this year on which Rs30,456 was spent.

Former additional secretary Abdul Rauf Chaudhry visited the UK, the Netherlands and China at a cost of Rs256,721.

Another former additional secretary, Ismail Hassan Niazi, visited three countries — the UK, China and Yemen — at a cost of Rs204,836.

Senior Joint Secretary Altaf Hussain Agral paid one visit to Kosovo and an amount of Rs96,160 was spent on it.

National Police Bureau Director-General Dr Shoaib Suddle paid one visit to Macau in November last year and Rs17,640 was spent on it.

Former joint secretary Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry visited the UK and Korea at a cost of Rs264,400.

Another former joint secretary Ziaul Islam visited China in October last year at a cost of Rs96,156.

A serving joint secretary, Akhtar Munir Marwat, visited Australia, Korea and Kazakhstan at the total expenditure of Rs87,341.

A former joint secretary, Teepu Muhabat Khan, visited the US, Kyrgys Republic, Czech Republic, Macau and Malaysia at a cost of Rs108,137 million.

A serving joint secretary, Sohaila Mushtaq, visited the UK and Japan, and Rs148,949 was spent on these tours.

A deputy secretary, Malik Riaz Hussain, visited Iran at a cost of Rs80,093.

Another deputy secretary, Nadeem Irshad Kayani, toured France, UK and Qatar, and an amount of Rs128,657 was spent for the purpose.

Shahzad Ahmed Malik, a deputy secretary, visited Haiti and all the expenses were borne by the UN.

A section officer, Mazhar Yasin Khan Watto, visited Kosovo on which Rs186,760 was spent, while the expenses of the visit of another section officer, Salahuddin, to Kyrgyz Republic were borne by the host country.

An amount of Rs151,438 was spent on a visit paid by an assistant account officer, Mudassar Amin Qazi, to Kosovo.
