KARACHI: President’s remarks criticized

KARACHI, Sept 17: The Jamat-i-Islami (Women Wing) on Saturday strongly condemned President Musharraf’s reported remarks against rape victims in Pakistan. The JI Senator, Dr Kausar Firdous, speaking at a women workers’ meeting here at the Idara Noor-i-Haq said that the president was putting the responsibility of rapes on the victims themselves in the international media, which is deplorable, shameful and condemnable.

She accused the president of taking a U-turn on national foreign policy on Palestine issue after Kashmir and Afghanistan.

Dr Firdous said women, in the society, were being exploited by eliminating the difference between men and women.

She alleged the government was sponsoring efforts to secularize the society and also criticized the role of media and alleged that the media was promoting vulgarity, western and Hindu culture in our society.—PPI
