All clear for Faisalabad nazim slot

FAISALABAD, Sept 16: Returning officers accepted nomination papers of all candidates for the city district nazim and its eight towns’ seats while rejected papers of 129 candidates of special seats for women, peasants and minorities.

RO Rana Pervaiz Akhtar interviewed candidates for the city district nazim seat and raised various questions about their political status, family background and willingness to fight for the local body elections.

Objections of minor nature were filed by some candidates against their rivals which were rejected.

Those declared eligible to contest for the district nazim slot are: ruling party MNA Ghulam Rasool Sahi; former PML-N MNAs Chaudhry Sher Ali and Rana Zahid Tauseef; former PML-N MPA Rana Muhammad Afzal, PPP-backed Ijaz Ahmed Virk; MMA-nominated Sardar Zafar Husain; Amjad Rabbani, Zafar Zulqurnain Sahi, Tariq Aziz and Raoof Tariq.

The final list of candidates would be displayed on Saturday (today).

While candidates could withdraw their nomination papers till Sept 20.
