TEACHERS: The Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association has expressed concern over recent clash between students and Rangers that took place on Sept 8.
At a meeting of the executive council of the association held on Wednesday, the association questioned role of the security wing of the university.
Prof Inayatullah Khoso presided over the meeting.
It discussed the current campus situation threadbare.
It said clashes between students and Rangers had hampered academic process of the university which was otherwise running very smoothly.
The role of the security wing of the university, particularly director campus, Lt-Col (rtd) Khalid Murad also came under discussion.
The meeting observed that Col Murad did not come out of his office to handle, monitor and control the situation which was his prime duty.
It criticized role of assistant security officer, Ashraf Rustamani and wondered why these officers were being retained by the university.
The meeting adopted a resolution calling upon authorities to fix responsibility of the incident and bring to fore as to who had called Rangers and directed them to do what they did.
The meeting said that fixation of responsibility was necessary as all people concerned at the campus had pleaded ignorance.
It said Rangers had acted on their own.
It demanded that Rangers and police be immediately withdrawn from faculties and teaching departments to ensure sanctity of faculties and to create confidence among students.
It also took a serious note of recommendations of allotment committee to allot one bungalow to Rangers within premises of the residential colony of the university where the academic staff and other employees reside with their families.
The meeting said it would create a lot of problems for families of employees and demanded that vice-chancellor must not allow such allotment.
It expressed surprise that according to the chairman of the allotment committee, the recommendation had been made under directives of the vice-chancellor. SU: Academic activities in the Sindh University have remained suspended since Sept 8 following clashes between students and Rangers at the campus.
