PESHAWAR, Sept 15: A plan to build shops in the building of the Elizabeth Girls School and College has been opposed by parents of students of the school who have called upon the government to drop the idea. “It would deprive the students of getting education because, according to the plan, some 10 classrooms would be demolished and shops would be built in their place,” said a source at the school.

According to the source, the plan to demolish 10 classrooms had already been approved by the authorities concerned and the construction of shops would soon be started.

Some parents told this correspondent that the school was already short of space and the plan would shrink its space.

The plan, which is bound to affect the students, would not only reduce the number of classrooms, but would also reduce the space after the construction of shops, which students could use for games, they said.

A source revealed that to materialise the plan, the school administration have reduced 100 seats in science group in higher secondary classes this year and only 100 students were given admission in arts group.

According to the source, the plan was aimed to convert the school into a commercial centre.

The principal of the school said that 100 students had been denied admission in science group, but it was not due to the plan of building shops.
