Khalid blasts century in district event

KARACHI, Sept 14: A blistering century by former Pakistan under-19 captain Khalid Latif inspired Malir-Shah Faisal Zone to a convincing seven-wicket victory over Nazimabad-Asifabad Zone on the first day of the fourth round Karachi region matches in the PCB Inter-district Senior Cricket Championship on Wednesday.

Khalid smacked 11 sixes and seven fours in scoring 117 off just 80 balls as Malir-Shah Faisal Zone overhauled Nazimabad-Asifabad Zone’s total of 235 in only 30.2 overs.

Wasim Naeem also reached three-figure when he made 101 (15 fours ands one six) to help Liaquatabad-Gulshan Zone score 222 against North Nazimabad-Orangi Zone, who were struggling at 55 for four.

Off-spinner Atif Maqbool and slow left-armer Adnan Malik picked up five wickets each as Federal ‘B’ Area-New Karachi Zone accumulated 284 against Landhi-Korangi Zone.

Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Play was curtailed in all three fourth round matches of the Lahore region because of rain.

Only 10 overs could be bowled in the match between North Zone Whites and West Zone Whites at the Railways Stadium Lahore in which the former were 27 for no loss.

East Zone Whites were 61 for five against North Zone Blues at the Mughalpura Institute Ground, Lahore when the rains stopped the play.

East Zone Blues had collected 62 for three against West Zone Blues at the LCCA ground before the stoppage.
