Sonia moves SC to get FIR registered
ISLAMABAD, Sept 14: Sonia Naz, the alleged rape victim of Faisalabad, on Wednesday petitioned the Supreme Court to order the police to register first information report (FIR) and book those who abused her. Filed by Advocate Zulfiqar Bhutta on behalf of Sonia Naz, the petition accused the Punjab provincial authorities of hindering and causing undue delay in the registration of FIR against the Faisalabad police officers nominated by her as culprits.
In her petition, she charged that by showing reluctance to register FIR, the Punjab Inspector-General of Police, DIG Crime, Lahore, and station house officer (SHO) Satoo Katla, Lahore, were committing a legal breach and therefore liable to be prosecuted under Section 166 (public servant disobeying law, with intent to cause injury to any person) and Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Sonia Naz has sought a direction from the apex court against the provincial authorities and the Punjab police to book the men she nominated as culprits under Hudood case and initiate legal proceeding against the police officers who refused to register FIR of zina bil jabr (rape).
She stated the apex court was competent to issue direction to the provincial authorities and police, when apparently provincial authorities were bent upon defeating the process of justice.
Sonia Naz was arrested from the National Assembly in April on the order of Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain for entering the parliament house without authority. She had gone there to seek help of the public representatives for his missing husband.
She alleged that she was kept in illegal confinement for a fortnight, raped and tortured by SHO Jaranwala, Faisalabad, Jamshed Chishti on the directives of Superintendent of Police (SP), Investigations, Abdullah Khalid.
