KARACHI: Governor wants SM Law College upgraded soon
KARACHI, Sept 14: The Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, on Wednesday directed officials to expedite the process of upgrading the S.M. Law College to the level of a university.
The governor issued the directive while presiding over a meeting to review various matters pertaining to the law department.
The meeting examined various aspects for upgradation of the S.M. Law College for awarding it the status of a law university.
The Additional Advocate General, Qazi Khalid, briefed the governor in this regard.
Dr Ibad directed the departments of Education and Law to take necessary steps with the cooperation of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in this regard.
He instructed the Education Department to prepare a working paper for presenting it at the Sindh Cabinet for approval so that implementation on the project could be undertaken.
The meeting also reviewed legal matters of the Advocate General Housing School, city government and other departments.
The governor especially directed the city government that in order for them to protect their costly land from the land mafia, they should acquire the services of expert lawyers, and in this connection get advice from the office of the advocate general.
Principal Secretary Saleem Khan, Advocate General Anwer Mansoor Khan, Secretary Law Ghulam Nabi Shah and other officials were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, presiding over another meeting, Ibad stressed effective interaction between the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, and Dow University Health Sciences (DUHS); and directed both universities for implementing a comprehensive action plan in this regard.
The Syndicate members of the LUMHS led by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Jan Muhammad Memon, attended the meeting.
The governor laid emphasis on harmonizing the faculty with demands of the modern age and for paying vigorous attention to the field of research.
Prof Jan Muhammad Memon, informed that work was under way on 13 research projects with the cooperation of the Pakistan Medical Research Council and the Higher Education Commission.—APP
