SUKKUR, Sept 14: More than 35 trade bodies of Sukkur have threatened to observer complete strike against increasing incidents of robbery and street crimes in the city. According to a press statement issued on Wednesday, the trade bodies held a meeting under Sukkur Small Traders President Haji Mohammad Haroon Memon and decided to launch a protest if their lives and properties were not protected by the criminals.

They said that the city police had failed completely to maintain law and order.

The traders said that their business activities had been affected due to harassment.

They demanded removal of such station house officers who were appointed on political basis and demanded to make SHOs accountable for crimes in their areas.

The trade bodies called for deployment of police at the main business centres and markets on a permanent basis.

Mr Memon announced to launch a protest movement against levy of withholding tax on the cheques of more than Rs25,000. He asked the traders to display black banners on the decision.

URS: The 407th annual urs of Hazrat Mian Adam Mohammad Shah Kalhoro, founder of the Mianwall Movement, will be celebrated on September 30 at his last resting place, Adam Shah-Ji-Takri.

This was decided at a meeting under the chairmanship of Sukkur DCO Shafique Ahmed Khoso.

The meeting was informed that Sindh Minister for Zakat and Ushr Mir Manzoor Khan Panwhar would inaugurate the urs in the morning by laying chadar on the grave. The minister then attend a seminar on the ruling period of Mian Kalhoro and his contributions to Sindh.

A musical programme and recitation of naat would be organized on the occasion.

The DCO directed the officers concerned and members of the Yadgar Committee to finalize all arrangements on time. He directed the Sukkur TMO to ensure cleanliness and proper lighting during the urs.

Earlier, the DCO presided another meeting at his office to stop stone crushing and blasting of hills along the Rohri bypass.

The meeting discussed various options to stop illegal practices of crushing and blasting which were affecting environment of the area.

Mr Khoso suggested that required safety measures should be adopted to conserve old age caves and hills by imposing ban on crushing and blasting of hills.
