SIALKOT, Sept 13: Seven candidates filed their nomination papers for district nazim slot on Tuesday. The candidates are PML-backed Akmal Cheema, former district nazim Mian Naeem Javed, Matloob Ahmad Warraich (ARD), Faisal Cheema and Ahmad Zulfiqar Cheema (Akmal’s covering candidates), Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas and Raja Amir Khan (PPP groups).

Reports say Mian Naeem, who is presently heading a splinter group of the PML, is optimistic about winning the ARD support.

GUJRANWALA: Over 250 aspirants backed by the ruling PML and ARD filed papers for district, towns nazims and special seats for third phase of local election.

Six candidates are contesting for the district nazim slot.

Reports said the PML had nominated Chaudhry Hamid Nasir Chattha’s son Faiz Ahmad Chattha for the district nazim seat.

The ARD had fielded former MNA Abdullah Virk and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Maulana Muhammad Ayub Tufani for the slot. Three more aspirants, including an independent, filed their papers for the same seat.

Similarly, the PML and ARD backed candidates have submitted papers in Khiali Shahpur, Aroop, Nandipur, Qila Dedar Singh, Kamoki, Naushera Virkan and Wazirabad towns.

More than 100 women have filed papers for 66 seats and 95 hopefuls for nine seats of peasants.

Senator Chaudhry Muhammad Anwer Bhinder’s son and cousin of State Minister Shahid Akram Bhinder, Naveed Anwer Bhinder, is reportedly contesting for Aroop town nazim and Provincial Minister Chaudhry Iqbal’s son, Asif Iqbal, for Khiali town.
