GUJRANWALA, Sept 13: A soft drink agency holder was thrashed and kept in illegal confinement for three hours by an impostor with the help of policemen on Tuesday. Tajamal Husain of Verpal Chattha village told the Hafizabad DPO that he was sitting at his agency in Saddar tehsil. Police driver Iftikhar Ahmad, along with his colleagues, came there and asked him to pay central excise duty (CED) to inspector Sarfraz Ahmad Butt.

When they were told that he was not eligible to pay CED they became infuriated. They started beating him and later kept him in illegal confinement for three hours and slipped away when people of the area gathered there. They also snatched Rs27,000 in cash from him.

Tajamal said when he complained to the central excise collectorate in Gujranwala he was told that Sarfraz Butt was not an employee.

The DPO started inquiry and summoned Hafizabad Saddar police station SHO and other officials on Wednesday (today).
