KARACHI, Sept 13: Provincial Transport Minister Mohammad Adil Siddiqui asked the traffic and other concerned officials to enforce speed limits to control over-speeding and accidents in the city.
According to an announcement here on Tuesday, the minister directed DIG traffic and the provincial transport department to erect speed limit signs on main streets of the city. The minister said that large signs carrying safety driving advises should be placed at main thoroughfares to teach driving tips to drivers.
He noted that traffic violations and over-speeding create serious offences, which cause accidents. These violations should not be ignored and traffic police must take action without any discrimination, he added.
Mr Siddiqui further directed the traffic police to enforce ban on the entry of heavy vehicles and dumpers in the city limits during specific hours to avoid accidents. He also appealed to the public transport operators to ask their drivers to follow traffic rules to avoid stern action.
The minister observed that people were facing difficulties due to development work and construction of flyovers and said that proper alternative passage should be provided to ensure smooth flow of traffic.—APP
