COLOMBO, Sept 12: Election observers getting ready to monitor the November Presidential polls have warned of heavy rigging and impersonation in tsunami-affected areas. The loss of documents and relocation of thousands of people could lead to large-scale malpractices in these areas, they said.
The country’s leading poll watchdogs say an estimated 300,000 eligible voters who lost their houses by the tsunami were living with either friends or relatives and would not receive their polling cards posted to former addresses.
