Vocational centre faces closure

By Our Correspondent

GILGIT, Sept 11: A vocational centre for women in the Ishkomen valley in Ghizer district may be closed down because of shortage of funds and staff, district councillor Mashrouf Akram has said, adding that the decision will affect 300 households in the area. She said sewing machines and equipment for the centre had been acquired form the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) but arrangements could not be made for paying wages of technical staff.

She said the AKRSP had promised to provide women technical staff for the centre. She appealed to the government to help save the centre from closure.
