HARIPUR, Sept 11: Two children drowned while bathing in the Tarbela lake and two others were rescued by the area people here on Saturday evening, police said. Eyewitnesses said that children belonging to two families were taking bath in the lake near village Jama when four of them slipped into deep waters.

However, two of them were rescued by the area people while the bodies of the other two were later fished out by divers.

The victims were identified as Saba Bibi, 7, daughter of Mohammad Pervez and her cousin Imran, 8, son of Mohammad Suleman of village Jama.

It may be recalled that five children were killed in the same area last year.

ELECTROCUTED: A teenaged boy was electrocuted while repairing an electric motor in village Kalu Pind.

Family sources said that Mohammad Saleheen, 15, was repairing a motor pump when he received an electric shock and died instantly.

TIMBER SEIZED: Haripur forest officials foiled a bid to smuggle high-quality timber to Punjab here on Saturday.

On being tipped off, Khalabat police stopped and searched three Datsun pick-ups (DRG-4233, PRH-6780 and PRM 1715) near Afghan Camp No 16 Haripur and recovered 63 logs of costly timber.

However, the drivers escaped, while the police took the timber and three vehicles into custody.
