PCB official resigns

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 10: One of the 10 members of steering committee formed by PCB to run affairs of District Cricket Association (DCA) resigned on Friday, alleging the body had failed to meet its objectives.

Javed Nisar Channa alleged in his resignation letter to PCB’s regional development officer for Hyderabad Region that the committee had failed to promote the game in the district and root out rampant favouritism and nepotism.

Javed exclaimed that one of the committee members, Hafeezur Rehman who was also selector and made himself coach of DCA team, could not find a single player in Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan and Tando Allahyar except those who played for his own club — Fazalur Rehman Sports.

“... Seven cricketers of his club have so far played two matches of National senior Inter-district tournament against Sanghar and Badin,” he remarked.

Pacer Naeemur Rehman, who represented Pakistan universities and led Sindh University team in the Inter-university tournament, and off-spinner Nasir Owais, who showed superb play during last season, had been sidelined “besides many other talented players who have fallen prey to his (coach’s) whims,” he said.

Secretary DCA Hyderabad, in violation of PCB rules and regulations, failed to organize Inter-club tournament, and conduct players’ registration, he blamed.

“Under the circumstances stated above, I find myself misfit to continue as member of this committee, therefore, I hereby resign (from committee) hoping against hope that the PCB authorities would take notice of cricket affairs in Hyderabad,” he pled.
