No water in Faisalabad

Published September 11, 2005

FAISALABAD, Sept 10: Water supply to the city remained suspended throughout the day on Saturday. The water supply to entire city was suspended on Thursday night from the Wasa pumping stations and the people were forced to use the underground brackish water.

Long queues of old people, women and children were seen at the hand-pumps installed by philanthropists along the Rakh Branch Canal to get potable water.

The people complained that suspension of water supply had become a normal practice due to the negligence of the authorities concerned.

When contacted, Wasa officials said the water could not be supplied due to low voltage of electricity which resulted in closure of tubewells.

They said the water supply would be restored till Saturday evening. But till filing of this report at 11pm, the supply could not be restored.
