KARACHI: All utility bodies asked to remain alert: Rain emergency
KARACHI, Sept 10: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman has directed all officials concerned to undertake effective measures to save the people from the adverse affects of rains. After visiting rain-affected areas in different parts of the city, he DCO Karachi to ensure effective monitoring of Lyari and other low-laying areas.
The KWSB was directed to make arrangements for draining out the accumulated rainwater from roads and capping of open manholes and gutters. For the purpose, staff be deployed on round the clock basis, he added. The KESC was asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply and make alternative arrangements.
Officials of all government hospitals and dispensaries have been told to ensure provision of all required facilities to people reporting at the facilities with rain-related medical problems.
The chief secretary ordered DIG Traffic to take special measures for ensuring a smooth flow of traffic across the city.
IMPLEMENTATION: IGP Asad Jehangir on Saturday directed the DIG Traffic to ensure implementation of the rain emergency traffic plan in order to maintain smooth movement of vehicular traffic, besides providing assistance to those whose vehicles would go out of order due to accumulated water.
The plan had been devised early this year under which people were also to be informed of the alternative clear routes.
He further directed broadcast of necessary information regarding traffic jams and alternative routes through Radio Pakistan and FM89 be ensured.
The DIG traffic ordered SSPs of traffic zones to implement the plan and make arrangements for draining out the stagnant water from roads through the city government staff.
The SSPs would also provide information at the Traffic Police Helpline 915 so that arrangements could be made for removal of rainwater from roads.
The plan prohibits parking of vehicles on central highways, roundabouts, intersections, signals and service roads. Besides it provides for availability of cranes/vehicles at all roundabouts for removal of any out of order vehicle from roads.—APP/PPI
