KARACHI: Benazir’s counsel deposes

KARACHI, Sept 10: Defence counsel for former prime minister Benazir Bhutto on Saturday contended that the prosecution could not prove its case against Ms Bhutto regarding allegation of misuse of powers or issuing any illegal instructions to favour any one for recruitment in Pakistan International Airlines.

Concluding final arguments before Accountability Court in Karachi, conducting illegal appointment trial against Benazir Bhutto and others, Abdul Hafeez Lakho, advocate for Ms Bhutto, argued that allegations of prosecution were not supported by any evidence against his client regarding appointments, up-gradation or other benefits in PIA.

The case is not made out against Benazir Bhutto as no prosecution witness, except the then principal secretary, Ahmed Sadiq, deposed against Ms Bhutto regarding illegal recruitments in PIA, he contended.

He submitted that the allegation of Ahmed Sadiq was false which he made to save his own skin. — PPI
