LAHORE, Sept 9: International, Kiran Khan (Wapda) stole the show with a fine performance claiming six gold medals, out of a total nine competed for, on the first day of the 6th national women swimming championship at the Model Town Club pool on Friday. Kiran and Sana Wahid (Army) were joint winners in the 50m butterfly as both covered the distance in 32.45seconds.
Kiran won her second gold in the 200m backstroke with a timing of two minutes 44.92 seconds. International Rubab Raza of Army, who got a wild card for the Athens Olympics-2004 to become the teenage swimmer of the games, remained second while Rida Sabahat (Punjab) was third.
Kiran claimed her third gold in the 800m freestyle, clocking 11 minutes 22.67 seconds, followed by Rubab and Aisha Tajwar (Army).
Continuing her brilliant performance, Kiran seized another gold in the 100m freestyle when she romped home in one min 06.86 secs. Rubab again earned a silver while Khadija Khalid (Punjab) bagged a bronze medal.
Then Kiran completed her domination by claiming golds in 100m butterfly (one min 15.09sec) and 400m individual medley (six minute 8.18sec).
Overall, Wapda besides six gold has won one silver medal, followed by Army and Punjab, who have two gold medals each and six and four silvers.
