ISLAMABAD, Sept 9: Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro has said the upper house is functioning effectively and doing substantive legislative work which was credible service to the masses and the federal system. Mr Soomro is leading Pakistan’s parliamentary delegation to the three-day conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

According to a message received here on Friday, responding to a question as to who would be presiding over the Senate session commencing from September 13 in the absence of Senate chairman and deputy chairman, Mr Soomro said the laid down rules clearly provided for a panel of presiding officers who would chair the proceedings of the upper house.

“The Rules of the Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate 1988 are very clear on it and more than one such precedence exists,” he added.
