KARACHI, Sept 9: Fizzling out of the call for Friday’s country-wide wheel-jam strike was a lesson to all opposition parties and an eye-opener to them, said Sindh Information Adviser Salauddin Haider.
In a statement, he said after visiting the entire city for at least four times during the day, he was of the view that the protest call had failed to evoke any sympathy or support from the public.
He said that city remained normal, transport plying since the break of dawn picked up frequency after about a couple of hours, enabling the commuters to attend to their offices of government departments, banks, multinationals, ports and the Karachi airport.
The adviser said train and airlines services operated on schedule, stock markets recorded a rise of 80 points and cotton exchange reported good attendance. Wheels of the economy moved normally and in some cases faster than usual, he added.
He maintained that consumer stores did normal business to which housewives were witnessed while the schools and colleges remained open. The closure of the cloth market was routine on Friday and can not be adjusted as claim for strike’s success.—APP
