KARACHI, Sept 8: Despite a century by Afsar Nawaz, his second in successive matches, Old Karachi Zone (formerly Zone-III) found themselves in trouble on the first day of the second round match of the PCB Inter-district Senior Cricket Championship on Thursday.
Afsar made 103, which included 17 fours and one six, but his team only managed 258 all out against Liaquatabad-Gulshan Zone (previously Zone-I). Off-spinner Tahir Khan (5-65) and slow left-armer Arif Mahmood (3-60) shared the bulk of wickets.
By stumps, Liaquatabad-Gulshan Zone were sitting pretty at 82 without loss with Haris Ayaz batting on a 54-ball 63.
Leg-spinner Mohammad Ali Zafar grabbed five for 55 as Malir-Shah Faisal Zone (ex-Zone-IV) were dismissed for 201. But Federal ‘B’ Area-New Karachi Zone (Zone-II) then found themselves in dire straits at 69 for four.
Nazimabad-Asifabad Zone (Zone-VII) scored 273 before Lamdhi-Korangi Zone (Zone-V) made 32 for one in reply.

Our Sports Reporter adds from Islamabad: Matches in the Islamabad, Rawalpindi regions were all hit by rain.
There was no play on the opening day at the Diamond Ground where Islamabad were to face Gujrat while at the Army Ground the match between Mianwali and Attock also could not begin.
However, only 4.1 overs were possible at the ARL Ground where Chakwal were up against Jhelum. Play started as late as 1.00pm but with action barely having begun rain struck again to prevent any further play. Chakwal had scored eight runs.
The situation at the KRL Ground was only slightly better where 13.1 overs were bowled in which Azad Jammu and Kashmir managed 56 for three against Northern Areas.
Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: North Zone Whites beat East Zone Blues by seven wickets in the Lahore region match.
North Zone Blues were in trouble against East Zone Blues for whom Rizwan Ahmed hit 138 in a total of 351. By close of play, North Zone Blues were 33-4.
