KARACHI: Ibad calls for steps to eliminate polio


KARACHI, Sept 8: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has directed that in order to make the province free from polio and ensure that anti-polio immunization has been carried out, the same should be entered in the birth certificate for authentication.

He was talking to a delegation of WHO, UNICEF and federal and provincial health officials which called on him at Governor’s House on Wednesday. Besides special immunization drives, the governor also emphasised that full attention be given on routine immunization system with regularity.

In this regard, he called for meaningful efforts by elected representatives up to the grass-root level and the health staff. He also issued directives for seeking the cooperation of education department and other institutions.

The governor appreciated the cooperation of private sector, NGOs and international organizations in the field of health. The delegation members informed that Sindh has the distinction of registering the lowest number of polio cases throughout the country due to the governor’s personal interest, as well as coordinated efforts of all those involved in this activity and the concerned organizations.—APP
