Hurriyat delegation meets Sonia

NEW DELHI, Sept 7: A Hurriyat Conference team led by its chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq on Wednesday met United Progressive Alliance Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi who assured them that the peace process in the Held state would continue.

The three-member Hurriyat delegation, whose other members included Abdul Ghani Bhat and Bilal Lone, held a 25-minute meeting with the UPA chairperson at her 10 Janpath residence.

Sonia Gandhi held out an assurance to the Hurriyat leaders that the UPA-led Congress government was committed to promoting peace and development in Held Kashmir, Hurriyat sources said.

A five-member Hurriyat team had earlier arrived in the capital on the invitation of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and held talks with him on Sept 5.—APP
