Defence Day: tributes paid to martyrs


ISLAMABAD, Sept 6: The Defence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with traditional solemnity and fervour with a pledge to render all sacrifices to safeguard the country from all threats.

The day dawned with special prayers for the security, solidarity, defence, progress and prosperity of the country at mosques across the country, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas followed by Quran Khwani for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to defend their motherland.

Floral wreaths were laid at the Mazar of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on behalf of the three services.

Exhibitions of military weapons and equipment were held in major cities, which were a great attraction for thousands of people, both young and old.

A special air show and fly past by army aviation helicopters, open action by artillery guns, fire power of infantry, displaying of drone and air defence weapons system and ammunition and an anti-terrorist demonstration by the elite troops of the Pakistan Army were held on the occasion.

The latest missiles, tanks, guns, army aviation helicopters and armament being used by Engineers, Electrical and Mechanical Corps, Army Air Defence, Signals, Army Service Corps and Army Medical Corps were put on display.

The public was shown video films on various aspects of military life.

Special darbars were held in army units while “bara khana” was arranged for the troops across the country. A get-together of retired and serving officers was also held at various messes in the evening.

The Pakistan Navy (PN) and Pakistan Rangers also participated in the exhibition.

An anti-terrorist demonstration by the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) was one of the thrilling events of this exhibition.

The PN observed the Defence Day of Pakistan with traditional solemnity to pay tribute to its martyrs who laid down their lives in defending their motherland.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held and Chief of the Naval Staff Order of the Day was read out at all PN ship establishments followed by the addresses to the officers and men by the respective Commanding Officers who highlighted significance of the day.—APP
