SWABI, Sept 6: The Watan Dost group of the Awami National Party on Tuesday announced names of its candidates for the posts of nazims of the Swabi district, Swabi tehsil council and Chota Lahor tehsil council.

Mr Amanullah will be running for the district nazim slot, Mr Hanif Jadoon for the Swabi teshil’s nazim and Mr Shahroum Khan for the Chota Lahor tehsil nazim. Mr Amanullah is brother of Haji Rehmanullah, a former MNA, and uncle of Amir Rehman, MPA.

The decision was announced at a councillors’ convention held at the residence of Haji Rehmanullah.

The women who got the ANP tickets for the district council were Falak Naz, Aneesa, Aliya Begum, Gul Zari, Zoojan, Shafqat Rani, Sher Bano and Mariam, Salima and Saeeda Yusra.

The male candidates for the district council are Nazir Muhammad and Javed Khan. Abdul Hakim, Bakht Sher and Sadiq Khan were nominated for the tehsil council.

The names of the female candidates for tehsil councils are Nusrat Jehan, Mamliqat Begum, Tasleem, Gul Mahar, Samia Gul, Waheeda Begum and Asmat Ara.

It is believed that the ANP took the decision in contravention of the understanding with the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) forcing the latter to declare that it would run a campaign against the ANP in the district nazim’s election.

The PML-N was part of the Swabi Jamhoori Ittehad (SJI) before it joined the ANP on assurances that Liaquat Ahmad Khan of the PML-N would be the consensus candidate for the office of Swabi tehsil nazim but the ANP leaders nominated all the candidates from their own party.

The issue was discussed at a meeting of the PML-N on Monday. The PML-N decided to hold a convention on Thursday to work out a strategy to give a tough time to the ANP in the election.
