HARARE, Sept 5: Zimbabwe Cricket and the Zimbabwe Professional Cricketers’ Association said on Monday there was no threat of a player strike disrupting the two Tests against India later this month. Ozias Bvute, the managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), told a media conference: “Zimbabwe cricket is not in crisis and there was never a threat of any strike.
“We are in the process of negotiating new contracts with the players, which started a week ago, which means we are busy bargaining.”
Mluleki Nkala, the chairman of the ZPCA, said: “The players have never been thinking of a strike. We know what’s at stake and it wouldn’t be good for international cricket.”
Rumours of another possible strike began at the weekend when ZC announced that it had withdrawn the offer of contracts to Stuart Carlisle, Barney Rogers and Neil Ferreira.—Reuters
