KARACHI, Sept 5: A rampaging Sattar Mansoori fired National Bank (NBP) to a 3-2 victory with a hat trick over a battling Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in Premier League soccer at CDGK Stadium on Monday.
The bankers, whose Nisar Ali got a yellow card in the second minute of the game, rattled the Karachi outfit with a whirlwind start as Sattar was on target in the 16th minute to give his side the lead.
Continuing their relentless attacks, NBP were again on the offensive ten minutes later, this time Sattar literally walking the ball into the net before dodging past beaten KPT goalkeeper Zulfiqar Ali and the defence.
The bankers knocked the life out of hapless KPT as barely four minutes later Mohammad Ashraf shot from 18 metres only to see Zulfiqar alert. But Sattar was unstoppable when he completed his treble, slamming home a dipping header after a perfect cross from Ashraf.
The bankers might have gone 4-0 ahead had Sattar’s header not missed the target from close range off an Akhtar Rasool pass in the 33rd minute.
Zulfiqar had to work hard to avert danger when Sattar hooked the ball for Ashraf whose effort was well taken by the keeper.
Causing more trouble for the shocked KPT, Sattar again pressed for his fourth but his left-foot effort hit Zulfiqar instead of cage in the dying moments of the first half.
Just two minutes into second period Attaullah and Auranzaib of NBP were yellow carded for rough play.
KPT heaved a sigh of relief when Akhtar slotted home from spot after Fareed Majeed, who was shaping to shoot, was hacked in the box by NBP defenders in the 61st minute.
Coming back to life, KPT mounted some more pressure, but this time Fareed was guilty of squandering a golden opportunity as the defence was beaten and NBP goalkeeper Nadeem Sattar stranded in the 64th minute.
KPT were delighted when they were awarded a penalty kick after Misbahul Hassan handled the ball in the box.
Akhtar’s spot kick rebounded off Nadeem but KPT player was too quick to react as he netted the second without giving NBP defender Abdul Waseem a chance to clear.
Pinning the bankers down in their own half, KPT made some dangerous inroads but were left ruing missed chances.
Akhtar shot the ball over the bar on a Fareed pass in the 71st minute, while Lal Bukhsh squandered an Asim Faiz cross from right in the injury-time.
Ashraf was the fourth NBP player who received a yellow in the 76th minute.
Tuesday will be rest day. KPT play Afghan Club at the same venue on Wednesday.
