KARACHI, Sept 5: Eight seed Shahid Hussain created the biggest upset of the tournament when he outclassed top seed Khwaja Masroor in 45-plus quarterfinal of Seniors national ranking tennis tournament on Sunday at Karachi Club. Shahid displayed superiority in every facet of the game to advance into the semifinal, totally overpowering his rival 6-2, 6-2.
Later, Shahid with his brother, former national champion Altaf Hussain recorded another upset when they shocked second seeds in 45 plus doubles, Karim Gul Aga-Pasha 6-2, 6-3 to enter into the last four stage.
In the remaining quarterfinals of the 45 singles Rashid Ahmed advanced to next stage after thrilling battle with Idrees Kodvavi 6-4, 7-5, Zahid Hussain took no time to thrash Akber Khan 6-0, 6-0 while Gul Hameed overcame Masood Ahmed 6-3, 6-3.
In other 45 doubles quarters, Tariq Aziz-Tariq Khan overpowered Zahid Hussain-Ashraf 6-4, 6-4, Akber Khan-Yousuf got walk over against Masood Ahmed- Zafar while Hyder Ansari-Zulfiqar were also awarded walk over again M Ilyas and Anis Younus.
