ISLAMABAD, Sep 5: A Master Plan for the national federations is to be announced shortly, the chief of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) said on Monday.
Lt. Gen Syed Arif Hasan told a news conference at the Pakistan Sports Complex that under the plan, annual grants of federations doing well will be enhanced and they will also be provided technical assistance and equipment.
The POA and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) officials were briefed recently by office-bearers of several federations and in that light the master plan has been prepared.
The Executive Committee of the POA that met in Lahore has decided not to have the representation of tug of war and body-building on the committee in future.
Being non-Olympic sports, the two disciplines will only have representation on the General Council.
POA has given Dec 31 deadline to federations to induct women representatives and will also soon fulfill requirements regarding its own Executive Committee.
“We will bring clear majority of Olympic sports in our Executive Committee and will also reduce its size to make it more functional,” POA chief said.
He said non-Olympic sports like tug of war and body-building would be removed from POA Executive Committee to its General Council so as to give Olympic sports a clear majority on the EC.
