LAHORE, Sept 5: The first consignment of 324 animals may arrive from India through Wagah on Tuesday (today). According to importer Sheikh Anwar Saeed, the first batch was supposed to cross into Pakistan on Monday but it could not because Indian officials concerned were on leave.
About the arrival, Mr Saeed said that he would be looking for more concessions from the government because the first experience had not gone commercially well.
The animals were kept in a quarantine for 12 days which cost the importer fortune: feed, medical tests, loading and unloading of animals. During these 12 days, animals also shed weight. All these factors have rendered the current consignment commercially non-viable, he said.
Before booking the next batch for import, we would like to seek some concessions on quarantine requirements and procedural matters. It is necessary to keep commercial viability of the import, he said.
