ISLAMABAD, Sept 5: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to link funding of universities with their overall performance and compliance with the commission’s policy decisions, an official statement said. Future funding to all public-sector universities and degree- awarding institutions will depend on their overall performance including the level of compliance with the governance criteria and the policy initiatives prescribed by the HEC, it said.
The status of the compliance by all universities of important guidelines and policy decisions of HEC will be placed before the forthcoming meeting of the chancellors’ committee for review, it said.
HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman has asked all universities to provide by September 20 the implementation status of various recommendations and guidelines of the commission with respect to the degree of their implementation, i.e. completely implemented, under implementation, not implemented.
The universities have been asked to particularly report on the introduction of a four-year undergraduate programme in all departments, compliance of Customer Fault Management System (CFMS) with NTC in PERN project, compliance of rules for promotion from BPS-20 to 21 and from 21 to 22 (proposed statues regarding promotion to meritorious professor (BPS-21 and 22), criteria for appointment and promotion of faculty members.—Staff Reporter
