KARACHI: High court dissatisfied with police reply

KARACHI, Sept 5: The Sindh High Court on Monday expressed dissatisfaction over the reply by the police regarding detention of one Abdul Hakeem and ordered that a consolidated affidavit be filed before the court. People have lost confidence in the police, SHC’s division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon, remarked after perusing the police statement.

Police denied the arrest and submitted that Hakim’s uncle Moharram Ali and others are wanted by the police in connection with crime cases. Expressing annoyance over police conduct, the court observed why detainee was arrested instead of the accused. Police was directed to submit consolidated statements regarding arrest of detainee on Sept 12. Petitioner Husan Ara Begum alleged that police inspector Shahid Qureshi and other officials of Mubina Town police station raided her house on Aug 28 to arrest her spouse Mahram Ali Chandio and in failure they took her nephew Abdul Hakeem.

She said her spouse was earlier implicated in a false case on a complaint of Ms Karim Bano under Sec 16-10 (4) of Zina Ordinance but discharged by the court. — PPI
