Lucky View barred for two weeks
KARACHI, Sept 4: Two unsporting incidents marked the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday. In the first, the third race of the programme had to be cancelled after bookies’ favourite horse Moj-e-Arab, the two-year old bay colt, ran out of the gate shortly before the start. This compelled organizers to withdraw the remaining eight horses from the starting line by cancelling the event.
In the second, the administrator of the Karachi Race Club, Mr. F. S. Aitzaz Uddin, had imposed a heavy fine on the owner, rider and trainer of another favourite horse, Lucky View, for ‘unsatisfactory riding’ in the seventh race and barred the horse from participation for two weeks.
Owner of the horse Mr. M. Tariq was fined Rs 30,000 while its rider Zaki Zakir and trainer Aftab Nawaz were fined Rs 5,000 apiece.
Dhoom Machade, the ten-year-old dark bay horse, who had to be content with third slot in the last meeting and tipped for a place, picked up the spoils due to lacklusture performance by Lucky View.
Its owner, Mr. M. R. Hussain, was jubilant as his another horse, four-year-old colt, Champion Express who was ranked outsider, secured second place in the race that featured fourteen runners.
The first race of the day saw four-year old chestnut, Lucky Golden winning top honours. Tom Cruise, the seven-year-old mare, and five-year-old half-bred, Quite Arrival, occupied second and third positions respectively.
